Chef and Father DVD: Review & Giveaway

Prior to starting Bean on solids, I decided that I wanted to make my own baby food. I want Bean to have the freshest food possible. Somehow, the idea of serving Bean carrots that possibly may be older than him doesn't sit too well with me (go ahead--check the expiration date--you'll be surprised!)

Other reasons I decided to make Bean's food:

*I want to feed him organically grown food without preservatives or the risk of being exposed to pesticides.

*It's more economical. Each serving is literally pennies to make, even when buying organic produce.

*I want Bean to become familiar with the foods and flavors we eat at a young age while he is sill interested in trying new things.

As a new mom, I had no clue where to start, so I turned to the Internet. Although I could find a lot of sources on what to feed Bean, I couldn't really find much on how to make his food.

When I discovered the DVD Chef and Father, I knew that this product would help me to learn all the techniques that I would need to get me through the first year with Bean.

In Volume 1--Baby Food Preparation, Chef Greg Johnson takes us step-by-step through the process of making everything from butternut squash and yams to a lentil and vegetable puree. His approach is casual and relaxed and it feels like we are cooking together in his kitchen.
Probably the most important segment of the DVD for me was the lesson on food safety. Chef Johnson discusses the "danger zone" and how to keep the food that we make safe for or little ones.

Although I work almost full time, I have been able to take the techniques that I learned in Chef and Father to prepare Bean's meals for the whole week during one of Bean's naps. My husband also watched the DVD with me and he has been inspired to make some food, too--the latest being sweet potatoes.
Volume 2 of the Chef and Father series, Healthy Food for Kids, is set to release soon. You bet I will check this one out, too!

Buy it!
You can buy Volume 1 of Chef and Father at http://www.chefandfather.com/ for $19.99.

Win it! Chef Greg Johnson has generously offered one Psych Mommy reader a copy of Chef and Father Volume 1, Baby Food Preparation. To enter this yummy giveaway, visit Chef and Father and tell me the name of one of the chapters or special features in Volume 1 of Chef and Father

I watched the video of him and his older daughter making butternut squash (and soup) and it was just adorable how he let her go pick it out from the garden.

What I love about this, is that my fiance won't feel like he is the first and only man. This will be his first baby and he is so insecure about everything. This will help him.

I like that Chef Johnson came up with his DVD to simplify parents lives when it comes to cooking and preparing meals for their kids. It seems liek it would be very complicated to cook meals for my son myself, but his approach is easy. THANKS for the great giveaway.

"Steamed Vegetables" - eating veggies seems to become an issue for so many kiddies. I do believe that if they start out LOVING veggies as infants, they'll keep that healthy habit forever.
