Bean has always been an okay eater. I considered myself lucky that he would pretty much eat up anything that I presented to him as long as it was on a spoon. However, now that he is older, he is putting up a messy battle when it comes to eating anything that I consider actually good for him. You know--those fruits and veggies.
I've had to be sneaky lately. I busted out the Cuisinart and started to puree again (I really thought I was done with that a couple of months ago). Making spaghetti? Add some pureed sweet potato or broccoli. Got yogurt? Add some squished blueberries or peaches. What to do with avocado? Mash it with bananas. Mac N Cheese again? Puree cauliflower. Grilled cheese? Sneak in some bits of broccoli with the cheese. Turkey meatloaf? Pureed carrots add some umff to it. He'll never know.
I also like to buy on the go products that already have veggies or fruit mixed in. Horizon's Little Blends are an example of a yogurt mixed with veggie and fruit.
So far it's been working, and I feel like at least he's getting some nutritious bites. If you have another idea, I'd love to hear it. Or if you have a recipe--even better! You can enter your ideas here in the Twitter Moms contest.
(This post is an entry into a Twitter Moms discussion contest, but all of those yummy ideas about hiding veggies and fruit have really been tested and works with Bean!)
