We were sent the Police Station Building Set which includes 44 pieces. With all the variety of parts, kids can build and rebuild following the lead of their imagination. What I love best about K'NEX sets are the endless ways for children to use their creativity and that there are no wrong ways to build. There are also included building ideas to help get your child started.
From an educational and developmental standpoint, the K'NEX building sets also help to promote fine motor skills, language (through discussion about what they built), social skills (sharing pieces, imaginative play), and cognitive skills (sorting, making patterns with parts). The included Play and Learn activity sheets feature educational activities for parents to engage with their preschooler.
The recommended ages for the K'NEX Sesame Street Neighborhood Collection is 2-5. Bean is a bit on the young side for the recommended age, but we took out the Police Station Building Set at a recent play group we hosted. The older kids (ages 3 and 4) loved it! Both wanted to be Elmo, but luckily there is an Officer Ernie that they can also build so we had them practice taking turns. As they left, one of the kids turned to their mom and asked if they could have "the Elmo blocks" for Christmas (hint hint, Santa).
Buy it! Sets retail for $9.99 for the Police Car Building Set and the Ice Cream Truck Building Set. The Police Station Building Set and the 1-2-3 Brownstone Building Set retail for $19.99. Buy online at K'NEX.
Make a K'NEXion contest: K'NEX is holding a "Make a K'NEXion video contest. They are giving $1,000 worth of K'NEX Building Sets to one winner who makes a video that showcases their child's K'NEX building skills and building with select K'NEX products. The contest runs through December 7th. To find out more details and to enter, visit K'NEX.
Note: I received the Police Station Building Set as part of a Team Mom review.
